Master of Arts in Christian Studies

Programme Overview

The Master of Arts in Christian Studies is a two-year programme designed to train students in the biblical and historic Christian faith. It equips them to minister effectively and to address the cultural and theological challenges of their ministry context.

Objectives

In keeping with the objectives of Central Africa Seminary, the aim of the curriculum, learning environment, and educational experience is that students will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and relevantly apply biblical Christian principles to specific situations facing the Church in Africa.
  • With clear and demonstrable research skills, competently investigate and solve problems with original or creative solutions.
  • Show strong awareness of, and appropriately engage with, prevailing cultural and theological issues in a given context.
  • Competently lead initiatives related to local church ministry and global evangelism

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Arts in Christian Studies will be able to:

  • Demonstrate expert judgement in discerning the antithesis between biblical Christianity, African Traditional Religion, and other religions, recognising both points of common grace and areas of idolatry.
  • Exhibit and apply a clear understanding of the historical narrative of the global church, with particular reference to the African church and its unique historical context.
  • Construct theologically nuanced responses to a variety of cultural issues within African contexts, addressing the specific challenges posed by African Traditional Religion, Animism, and Islam.
  • Produce high-quality research papers suitable for publication, dissemination, and teaching within the African church.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to progress seamlessly into advanced theological study—such as a Master of Divinity—or potentially doctoral work, where the requisite inclination and aptitude are present.
